Researchers in the field of intelligent interfaces have concentrated on building architectures, and have placed little emphasis on defining appropriate models.As a result, this research area is not well defined.L-CID is a model of au intelligent interface that establishes the knowledge requirements for, determines the functionalist y of, and creates a definition for au intelligent interface.In addition to modeling knowledge-based user interachon, L-CID allOWS IWO @Otlant fLlllCtiOUS COI~lOU]y overlooked in models of intelligent interfaces: (1) selfadaptation, and (2) user-interface management.Examples of implementations of L-CID for each of these funchous are pl-esented.
