Commonly asked questions about Ada

Robert F. Mathis · ACM SIGAda Ada Letters · 1996

~2 How do you compare Ada and C/C++?Ada is a standardized programming language. So is C but C++ is not yet standardized. There is general agreement about the central part of the C language, but existing compilers have differences.Predicting the compromises that might be necessary to standardize the language is risky.C++ compilers wiLl run C code, which means that the software is purported to be written in C++ with the assumption of object oriented software engineering. This is not necessarily true. The Ada community recently updated the international standard from Ada83 to Ada95.The update is closer to the original Ada than C++ is to C. Ada83 already had most of the good features people wanted in Ada95.
