Optimum inspection policies for a computer system with hidden failure

P. K. Kapur, N.L. Butani · International Journal of Systems Science · 1987

This paper discusses optimum policies for a computer system inspected at random times and subject to two types of failures (hidden failures and system failures). Two models are considered. In model I, a hidden failure is detected by the next inspection, and a system failure is immediately known upon its failure. The system continues to operate with a hidden failure until this is detected by the next inspection, or until the system fails. In model II, both types of failure are detected on the next inspection.
