Generation of A.C, or a Specified Harmonic, using D.C. Power and a Single Switch†

D.P. Howson · International Journal of Electronics · 1966

It is shown that a circuit containing a single externally driven switch. operated at a fundamental frequency ƒ, can give efficient conversion of d.c. to a.c. at frequency ƒ or any specified harmonic of ƒ. The efficiency depends in the main upon the quality of the switch, as measured by the ratio of open to closed conductance, and on the percentage of the cycle for which the switch is opened. The circuit is compared with other forms of amplifier and harmonic generator, including the Class C amplifier.
