Logic partitioning---component assignment

Hildegard A. Nidecker, William F. Simon · 1968

A technique for partitioning logic into groups having minimal interconnection was considered an important tool necessary to the building of the Univac @@@@ 9200 System. Not only would costs be reduced by minimization of the total number of printed circuit assemblies and the total number of backboard connections, but logic signal propogation delay would also be minimized. The price to be paid for these advantages—a multiplicity of unique card types—was fully recognized, but considered tolerable in a small, high-volume system, 1
