A method of estimating grouped frequencies

Carl Philipson · Scandinavian Actuarial Journal · 1959

1. The method to be analysed in the following context has been described by Almer (short descriptions have been given in Trans. XVth Int. Congr. Act, New York 1957, II, pp. 344–349 and in preparatory notes read to Svenska Aktuariefüreningen, January and February 1954) and used by him in co-operation with the present author in investigations into Motor Insurance, with respect to Third Party Liability, for the Swedish Tarif Committee and, with respect to Car Damage, for the Swedish Tarif Association (reports in stencil to the Registrar General and internal memorials). The method has been applied both to claim frequencies and to the conditioned mean amount of one claim relative to the hypothesis that one claim has occurred.
