Alternative wireless client authentication and key distribution
Mohamad Badra · Network Security · 2007
Access control and key distribution mechanisms have been major concerns with WLAN set-up. The original 802.11 standard defines authentication and encryption mechanisms but unfortunately suffers from serious design flaws and doesn't provide a key management framework. Consequently, a set of standards has been developed with the aim of improving upon the security of WLAN, requiring the cooperation between a remote authentication server and a security and key exchange protocol. Multiple security protocols have been consequently adopted and proposed for WLAN security.
