REFLECTION AND TRANSMISSION BY LAYERED PERIODIC STRUCTURES
HAROLD LEVINE · The Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics · 1966
The interaction between a plane polarized electromagnetic wave and a finite or semi-infinite aggregate of equally spaced parallel current sheets with unbounded lateral extension is analysed. An explicit realization of the time-harmonic and spatially modulated wave function in the periodic configuration is achieved, by contrast with its previous local specification, via methods of the recurrence type, at the individual plane scatterers. Various compact representations are newly deduced, in particular, for the plane wave reflection coefficient appropriate to incidence on the semi-infinite aggregate, and it is shown that both the aspects of Bragg and Fresnel reflection are encompassed thereby.
