Control of critical resonances in violin bodies
Norman C. Pickering · The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America · 1981
Spectral response of 25 violins was obtained by tapping the bridge under computer control synchronously with digital recording of data from a spectrum analyzer. Correlation with subjective judgment of competent players is closer than for any other excitation method used so far. This paper deals with the three strongest peaks of response, their amplitudes and frequencies in good and bad instruments, and how they can be controlled by the violin maker.
