The analytical model takes realistic Internet delays into account and calculates the mean transmission time and its variance for individual receivers in a multicast group. The results of an example scenario show that local error recovery techniques significantly reduce the transmission time of packets. Especially protocols which are based on local retransmissions by routers perform very well.
