Collating with Microsoft WORD

William V. Schipper · Literary and Linguistic Computing · 1991

Efficient machine collation requires complete copies of all variant texts. Short and medium length texts can be input separately, but this process becomes time-consuming and expensive when the texts are very long, or when there are many variant versions. This note describes several macros for Microsoft Word that can simplify the production of variant copies. The process still requires manual collation, but using the macros produces both a master listing of all variants, and variant copies of the base text for use with a collation program.
