Extended universality and the question of spin on hierarchical lattices

An extended universality principle for hierarchical lattices is refuted. The spin-independent aspect of universality is, however, retained. It is proposed that a distinction be made between a ``weak statement of universality'' and a ``strong statement of universality.''
