Design centring and tolerance assignment problems

A reduction in the cost of mass-produced electric circuits may be achieved by the optimal assignment of component nominal values and tolerances. A method is proposed for the transformation of this design problem into an unconstrained minimisation that can be carried out using minimax algorithms.
