An efficient storage scheme for aligned genetic sequences
Yi-Wen Guu, Shankar Subramaniam · 1993
In this paper, a storage scheme for alignments of genetic sequences ia proposed and malyzed.'Ihis scbune can achieve a substantial reduction in space for storing alignme@ data It further allows common subaequencas to be acceasd much easier than the tmditionsl scheme widely used. These cusnmon aubsequence.sareimportantfor parsing and indexing in a genetic database. In this paper, the storage scheme for an rdignmentof two genetic sequences is tirst proposed, and then tbe associated encoding and decoding algorithms are described.Based on tbe storage scheme for au alignment of two sequen~, the storage scheme for an alignment of multiple genetic sequences can be constructed, and the construction will he daacribedin this paper.Fmtber, tbe associated encoding and dwxdiig algorithms for an alignment of multiple sequences will also he described.FmaUy, the performance of tbe pmpoaed stomge scheme ia evaluated in terms of stomge reduction, and the cormc$neas of tbe proposed stomge scheme ia proved.
