Non-Linear Digital Image Processing Techniques For Recognition Of Moving Objects

Vito Cappellini, Alberto Del Bimbo · Proceedings of SPIE, the International Society for Optical Engineering/Proceedings of SPIE · 1983

Some non-linear digital filtering techniques are presented for fast image processing, in particular for real-time recognition of moving objects. It is outlined how these filtering techniques can reduce noise components and disturbances, giving high efficiency extraction of edges and boundaries in the processed images: one filter can be applied before edge detection to perform a non-linear smoothing; other filters can be used after edge detection to eliminate noise spikes and enhance useful patterns. The application of the abomedigital image processing techniques in a system for moving object recognition is shown. Experimental results are reported.
