made of different typefaces and intensities to visually separate textual material, Genstat instructions, and Genstat output, but the font used to display examples of input instructions, although adequately large, is not heavy enough to be easily read in any but the most brightly lit rooms. The summaries of Genstat instructions given at the ends of the chapters do not have this defect, but the examples displayed throughout the chapters are more important when a novice user accesses the book as a working reference, and it is in such usage that correct copying of syntax is most critical. I would also like to have seen a summarization of selected Genstat instructions on the book’s flyleaves. The book is expensive but well worth its cost to those who are just beginning to develop some computer literacy. Even more experienced readers should find the attention to detail and fundamental concepts to be an enjoyable confirmation of previous understanding rather than a distraction.
