IN-security: The pillaging of corporate America
Marilyn Michelle Helms, Lawrence P. Ettkin, Daniel J. Morris · Competitive Intelligence Review · 2000
It is crucial for CI systems to incorporate security professionals. To truly be an effective presence in the CI framework, a counter-intelligence element must be included within the structural design. In addition to increasing corporate competencies and narrowing the competencies of industrial rivals, the adaptation of an all-encompassing CI unit can protect the business against devastating information compromise from industrial espionage. The authors examine the modern involvement of internationally sponsored entities that illegally attempt to procure intellectual property from U.S.-based, technologically oriented firms, and profile countries with effective intelligence networks. Special issues related to the practices of U.S. and multinational companies are detailed. A list of resources is provided for CI professionals as they develop or enhance their own CI system to protect the company against information compromise. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
