The meaning of 'extraction' of data from a database

Taking a broad interpretation of what is meant by ‘extraction’ from a database under the EC Database Directive, the European Court of Justice has ruled that extraction should not be confined to the physical copying of data and can include transfers even where the data are critically reviewed by the extractor.
