Processing Properties of Integrated Optical Neural Computing Devices Using Graded Index Waveguides

Yasumitsu Miyazaki · Japanese Journal of Applied Physics · 1990

Signal coupling and processing characteristics of new integrated neural computing devices consisting of a thin film waveguide with graded index distribution and control electrodes are shown. By using electrooptic, magnetooptic and acoustooptic effects, electromagnetic fields and acoustic waves, generated by electrodes at the optical beam focus, control of the neural coupling and processing of many input signals of optical beam that are incident to graded index film waveguides is possible.
