Detrimental effects of searching with precoordinated terms

A ‘precoordinated’ term in a controlled vocabulary is a term that combines two concepts with Boolean AND prior to the act of indexing or searching. For example, the term Library Automation combines the concept of ‘libraries’ with the concept of ‘automation’. By using Library Automation as a search term, one may avoid having to create and intersect separate facets.
