Object X-rays for cutting holes in composite overset structured grids

Robert Meakin · 15th AIAA Computational Fluid Dynamics Conference · 2001

An efficient method to determine the inside/outside status of arbitrary points with respect to given objects is described. The surface geometry of given 3-D objects is converted into high-resolution planar compact structured data sets. The structure employed in the compact data sets facilitates extreme efficiency in accessing object pierce-point information. Object conversion is a one-time pre-process. The resulting compact data sets can be used for chimera hole-cutting purposes for either static applications, or for unsteady moving body applications which require repeated execution of hole-cutting operations.
