Explicit mean energies for the thermodynamics of systems of finite sequences

Wislicki has suggested that the Hamming distance between binary sequences (or strings, or bit-strings) might serve as an interaction energy. The partition function and related thermodynamic quantities could then be calculated and used to investigate ensembles of binary string systems evolving, for example, according to cellular automata rules.
