MODELLING TREE CROWNS AS GEOMETRIC SOLIDS

David M. Wilkinson · Arboricultural Journal · 1995

Summary A photographic method is used to show that geometric solids provide good models for the crown shapes of open grown trees. Some species (e.g. Lombardy poplar Populus nigra ‘Italica’) fit such models better than others (e.g. Sycamore Acer pseudoplatanus). Age related differences in the degree to which some trees fit the models are demonstrated.
