Quantum Electrodynamic Bound on Squeezing
Stephen Mark Barnett, Claire R Gilson · Europhysics Letters (EPL) · 1990
The vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field are apparently infinitely energetic. This fact, together with the highly singular commutator for the electric- and magnetic-field operators suggests an almost limitless scope for squeezing. However, we show that if the squeezing is to be periodic, and therefore accessible to phase-sensitive detection, then there is a bound on the attainable level of noise reduction.
