Relationships between wavefield sampling and coherent noise attenuation

This paper examines spatial sampling and aliasing in the CMP method. The spatial sampling function and its Fourier transform are derived to show how the sampling of the field variables, s and t, relates to the sampling of the CMP processing variables, y and h. The results are used to consider the effects of various sampling schemes on source generated coherent noise such as, direct arrivals, refractions, ground-roll, flat, dipping and specular reflectors. This leads to possible processing strategies for attenuating these types of potentially aliased coherent noise events.
