John Ambrose Fleming · Terrestrial Magnetism and Atmospheric Electricity · 1945
Captain Nicholas Hunter Heck, retired on April 30, 1945, from the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey after nearly 4.1 years of geophysical service and internationally recognized attainment. With relief from the many demands of his scientific and administrative responsibilities thus afforded, it is the hope of his colleagues everywhere that he may have many more years to give his constructive thought to the further development of geophysics and to the rehabilitation of those international relations of the International Union .of Geodesy and Geophysics in the success of which his collaboration has had so much to do. Captain Heck is a graduate of Lehigh University, with degrees of Bachelor of Arts (1903), Civil Engineer (1904), and Doctor of Science (1929). He was further honored in 1941 by Fordham University with the degree of Doctor of Science.
