Current user education efforts at the university of Alabama in Birmingham

Most university User Services departments, according to their newsletters and course announcements, seem to approach the problem of user education through short courses or installation generated manuals. In many cases the student's lack of prerequisite knowledge is not acknowledged nor are the problems of attending scheduled classes; the courses may more often than not be presented at a time when the user is not actively involved with the particular system, language or facility which the course covers.
