The presentation is based on the results of an international meeting for establishing the state of the art and for making recommendations for continued research and development in the field. The meeting was arranged by Kval on behalf of the AIL A Commission for Computational Linguistics in conjunction with the Committee for Linguistics in Documentation within the International Federation for Documentation (FID/LD). See statement on pp 99–101. The conclusions below, though in tune with that statement, have been formulated by the author, who therefore alone carries the responsibility for them.
