One database to rule them all

A new Privacy Act passed by the Australian Government at the end of 2012 has rewritten the rules when it comes to how biometric data can be used. 1 It allows official agencies – law enforcement and security services – to acquire, hold and merge biometric data, including information taken from third party sources such as private companies. This storing and aggregation of data is something that would previously have been unlawful.
