Frequency assignment for narrowband services using a dominant carrier in SCPC satellite links
Stanley Henry Mneney, Ramjee Prasad · International Journal of Electronics · 1987
The effect of a dominant carrier in the presence of many small carriers in SCPC satellite links has been studied. The link carrier power can be increased, in a selected channel, albeit at a penalty of the SCPC system channel capacity and increased intermodulation distortion. This paper investigates the resultant inter-modulation distortion and proposes a frequency assignment to maximize the per channel C/IM ratio. A dominant carrier link would be useful for audio-visual narrowband services which can be broadcast in an economical way to small, receive-only, earth stations located in the rural areas of developing countries, using existing international satellite systems.
