The reviewer was completely converted to Pascal some 8 years ago, and it has been extremely difficult to divorce immense dislike for FORTRAN77 from the efforts of the authors.They have attempted the ambitious task of trying to combine comprehensive coverage of FORTRAN 77 with a text suitable for those with no previous knowledge of FORTRAN.The book is therefore aimed at 1. current FORTRAN users 2. students and staff in higher education 3. industrial scientists, engineers and technologists a rather motley collection.Attempts are made to split the readership by urging certain sections to be skipped on first reading.In my experience this acts as a challenge and first-time readers become bogged down in a
