Validity of the effective Hamiltonian for the degenerate Raman process

The validity of the effective Hamiltonian for the degenerate Raman process is examined. The validity conditions are obtained by comparing results from the effective Hamiltonian approach and full microscopic Hamiltonian approach. The features of atomic inversion, photon number distribution and, especially, the field squeezing are analysed in these two approaches.
