Cluster analysis for directional data

To date, cluster analysis for directional data has received little attention in the literature. Motivated by an application in meteorology, a statistic is presented here along with a graphical tool that assesses the significance of clustering in a univariate directional data set. The methodology is illustrated on a sample of wind directions.
