Abstract This paper is a survey of visualization and analysis techniques for medical 3D images for researchers and students in computer science. Publications from this decade with internationally high evaluation are reviewed, focusing on medical applications of new mathematical techniques and computer hardware, mostly from the viewpoint of the authors' specialty, namely, volume graphics and computer vision. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
