Performance monitoring on a multiaccess system

This paper describes the need for performance monitoring of a multiaccess operating system and outlines the methods that can be used to perform monitoring. The study describes the monitoring that has been carried out on a Digital Equipment Corporation.† VAX is a trademark of Digital Equipment Corporation VAX 11/750 (running ‡ 4.1 Berkeley Source Distribution 4.1BSD) which has been running under varying workload conditions for approximately eight months. The results that were collected are presented and some conclusions drawn. Areas of further studies are indicated.
