Theoretical and Experimental Investigation of Detecting Weak Sinusoidal Signals with 4-sensor Vector Acoustic Intensity Array

Shaohua Chen, Jinglin Xiang · 2007

The performance of detecting weak sinusoidal signals with 4-sensor vector acoustic intensity array is investigated in this paper. First, we presented the fundamentals of sinusoidal signal detection as well as DOA estimation based on the cross-spectrum acoustic intensity measurement. Then, we deduced the conditional probability density function (pdf) of the acoustic intensity component by using the total probability formula. The probability of detection and false alarm can be obtained from the pdf. We also analyzed the detection performance of the power spectrum. The results show that the acoustic intensity is much superior to the power spectrum in sinusoidal signal detection in isotropic Gaussian noise. Experiments conducted in a semi-anechoic chamber confirmed the above theoretical results.
