The Norm Continuity Properties of Square Roots

Richard Bouldin · SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis · 1972

This paper is concerned with linear operators on a complex Hilbert space. There is no continuous square root function defined on the set of all normal operators. However, this paper defines a square root function on each of several large sets of operators and establishes the continuity of each function in the operator norm.
