Improved sigma–delta background estimation for vehicle detection

An enhanced version of the sigma–delta background estimation method for vehicle detection is proposed. A selective updating of the background model at the pixel level is included to deal with slow moving or temporarily stopped vehicles. The proposed algorithm is compared with some previous enhancements of the sigma–delta method, showing its effectiveness in urban traffic scenes.
