Computer analysis of the physiological processes. System identification
Zoltán Benyó · Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society · 1992
Dynamic characteristics of a physiological system in the time domain are described by means of a differential equation, or a system of differential equations. The procedure of writing the differential equation, or system of differential equations describing the system is termed identification. According to preliminary information on the system, two extreme cases of identification may be distinguished. If the structure of the mathematical model is known, namely, how many compartments are needed to model the physiological system, and how they are related, it is a case of parameter assessment. For a tested system of unknown structure, the problem is termed identification. Most problems are somewher in between these two extreme cases.
