Image quality: An analysis of improvements and degradations in a digitally‐processed large format camera photograph

Matthew Heric, Ann Middleton · Geocarto International · 1994

A Large Format Camera photograph of the Black Hills, South Dakota was digitized and processed using several enhancement techniques and evaluated for overall quality by a team of photointerpreters. Resultant rating scores were analyzed using one‐way ANOVA models in conjuction with Tukey honestly significance difference (HSD) tests. Based on the study results, medium contrast enhancements and a 3 x 3 high‐frequency filter were determined to be processing techniques which improved the imagery; and reduction and a 3 x 3 low frequency filter were found to be techniques which degraded the imagery.
