A graphical treatment of the tone reproduction problem in television systems

The impracticability of analysing the tone reproduction properties of a television system in terms of simple mathematical laws is discussed. A construction for a tone reproduction chart is presented which enables a realistic assessment of the overall performance of a system to be made, subjective effects being taken into account. The use of the chart is demonstrated by examining the effects of altering certain parameters of the system.
