Path-following approach to globally optimal vector quantiser design

The continuation method, also known as the path-following method, is applied to the problem of globally optimal vector quantisation, and a novel algorithm is proposed. The superiority of the proposed algorithm in codebook quality, computational efficiency, and algorithmic simplicity is demonstrated through experiments in image coding.
