Communicating with scientific satellites in the TDRSS era

To accommodate the great variety of proposed transmission requirements and vast increases in data rates and data quantity, NASA is replacing the existing network of ground stations with a new space network and associated ground processing facilities. The author describes the major hardware and software components of the instrument communications systems and the data-flow processes for spacecraft instrument commands and downlink data transmission.>
