Product Codes for Optical Communication

Abstract Many optical communication systems might benefit from forward-error-correction. We present a harddecision decoding algorithm for the “Block Turbo Codes”, suitable for optical communication, which makes this coding-scheme an alternative to Reed-Solomon codes.
