The design and implication of packet switching system

S.-S. Huang · Journal of the Chinese Institute of Engineers · 1984

The Layered Network is the trend in modern computer network. The international standard organization (ISO) has proposed a seven‐layer architecture for the international standard computer network protocols. In the ISO reference model. The lower three layers are used for the communication subnet. The job of the subnet is to carry messages from host to host, and‐ packet switching is particularly suitable for this function. This paper describes the design and implication of a packet switching system. It first deals with the system design of the packet switching system, including system requirement analysis and architecture design. Then it proposes a general model of network architecture for the packet switching system, and presents the high level design of both hardware and software. Finally it introduces the TELPAC packet switching system, which is implemented by using the proposed model. The introduction includes system requirements, network architecture and system features.
