Consuming information: the need for safety regulations
Roger Hussey · Knowledge and Process Management · 2000
Companies use the Internet to disclose financial information and consumers of this information are using it to make share trading decisions. This paper questions the adequacy of current regulations to protect their interests. Two surveys of disclosure practices of the FTSE Top 100 companies were conducted with a two-year interval. The findings reveal an increase both in the number of companies providing financial information on the Internet and in the range of information. The results do not reveal, however, a concerted effort by companies to ensure the integrity of the information. The consumer is left, therefore, largely unprotected.
