At an academic institution we are faced with a rather unique problem in programming instruction. First of all, we are faced with the fact of the cyclic nature of the student body. Also, unless we are concerned with a credit course involving programming, or addressing ourselves to Computer Science students, we have a simple goal: to teach as many people as possible (faculty, staff, and students) an effective language—as swiftly as possible and as in depth as necessary.
