From Classical to Quantum Computers. Quantum Computations with Trapped Ions

J. F. Poyatos, J. I. Cirac, P. Zoller · Physica Scripta · 2000

Quantum Mechanics might play a role in the forthcoming generation of computers. Since computers get smaller and smaller they will at some stage cross the border of the Quantum Realm. Recent theoretical results confirm the special new properties of such devices. We analyze the properties of Quantum–Mechanical computers and its realization with ions trapped in an electric field and cooled to fractions of a degree above absolute zero.
