A denial of service (DoS) attack on the SS7 system will slow down or stop crucial control messages. The SS7 network is closed and protected from public access - therefore considered secured. However, even without connecting a node to the SS7 network, existing vulnerabilities would allow a DoS attack to be launched via SMS. An effective way to contain such attacks is to implement an approach known as artificial hygiene.
