Nobutoshi Kihara, Etsuro Saito, Katsumasa Takahashi · IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics · 1977

In current videotape recorder technology, one of the trends is to attain compactness, which requires increasingly higher density of recording and a narrower track width of the recording video head. When making the track width narrower, however, one of the problems is that the head life is shortened. Conventionally, efforts to solve this problem have been made by improving the material used in the head pieces and tapes.
